Caprese Salad

This is a delicious and simple recipe for Caprese salad. The flavors are very distinctive so make sure that you use the freshest ingredients you can find.
Ingredients -
4 Large Ripe Tomatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick
1 Pound Fresh Mozzarella Cheese, sliced 1/4 inch thick
1/3 Cup Fresh Basil Leaves
3 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Sea Salt, to taste
Freshly Ground Black Pepper, to taste
 
Preparation:

1. Alternate and overlap the tomato slices, mozzarella cheese slices, and basil leaves on a large platter.

2. Drizzle with olive oil.

3. Season with sea salt and pepper.

 


Cooking Tip
The best kind of tomato to use for Caprese salad is beefsteak tomatoes if you can find them in your local grocery store. If you can't then any perfectly ripe tomatoe will work perfectly.

As well as adding the layers of tomato and mozzarella sometimes it's a nice presentation piece to add a few chuncks of blue cheese and slivered almonds just to add a touch more flavor and color.
